EYE MOVEMENT

DESENSITIZATION

REINTEGRATION

Most of us show up on a therapy couch because we feel stuck. We’ve tried everything we can think of and can’t seem to move forward. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reintegration (EMDR) is a way to get us “unstuck.” Trauma can be any experience that happens to us, where we simply didn’t have the resources inside of ourselves or from others, to make sense of the thing that happened. When we experience something traumatic, our brains and bodies can get stuck, and no matter how hard we try to logic our way out and do something different, we just can’t. EMDR uses bilateral tapping, eye movement or sound to reprocess what has happened to us. When this occurs in the context of a safe, nurturing environment, our brains and bodies can make sense of what happened, {it can feel like a magical rewiring of our brains} so we can move forward, freed up to choose how to respond in new, integrated ways.

EMDR can be beneficial for clients who have experienced pervasive negative childhood experiences, abuse of any type, medical trauma or athletic injury, sudden traumatic events or ongoing symptoms of PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). Doing this work can bring peace, change what we believe about ourselves and the world, and alleviate pain and shame in incredible ways.

WHAT IS EMDR?

EMDR Extended Sessions & Intensives

In my work with clients, I’ve found that it can be more beneficial to have extended EMDR sessions (2-3 hours at a time) or even an intensive (1-3 days of sessions) to process through experiences that seem to be  controlling our lives. If this is something that interests you, let’s talk about whether an extended session could benefit you.
